Treatment summary

Bridges are a fixed solution to tooth loss that has been used in dentistry for many years. Here at Hazelwood, our bridges are lightweight and designed to exist in harmony with your existing natural teeth as closely as possible.

When teeth are lost, whether it be due to injury, decay or gum disease, a dental bridge can provide a fixed solution to restore your mouth and smile. Bridges are replacement teeth that are designed in the image of your existing natural teeth.

They are anchored by healthy teeth on either side of the gap in your smile, and teeth may sometimes need to be crowned to provide extra support. A false tooth sits in the gap.

Benefits of bridges

Fixed and sturdy solution to tooth loss: Bridges are created from digital impressions of your teeth.

The shade and shape of the crowns and false tooth made for your bridge are made in near-perfect ratio with your existing teeth. Once placed, your bridge will stay firmly in place when you chew, smile and laugh.

Beautiful craftsmanship for your bridge: Using modern, lightweight, and tooth-mimicking materials, we will create a bridge that looks natural and makes aesthetic sense with your mouth and existing teeth.

Cost-effective tooth replacement: Dental bridges are one of the most economical tooth replacement treatments available.

Frequently asked questions

Are there any disadvantages to dental bridges?

Dental bridges can cause some minor to moderate wear on the supporting teeth (which hold them firmly in place).

If you’re looking for a more preservative answer to tooth loss, a single dental implant (for one tooth) or implant-supported bridge (for multiple gaps) may be something you want to consider.

Are there different types of bridges?

Yes.

Conventional bridge: This is where a crown or onlay is placed on one (or both) teeth adjacent to the gap.

Adhesive bridge: Also known as Maryland bridges, adhesive bridges don’t require the crowning of adjacent teeth. They are stuck on (adhered) to them with a metal (porcelain) wing.

Implant-supported bridge: Dental implants are surgically placed tooth roots. A bridge is then fixed into the implants, providing the greatest degree of support, functionality and aesthetic (our dentists’ pick for tooth replacement).
