Treatment summary

Leave the dentist with a full smile after just one appointment, thanks to All-on-4 implants. Using innovative implant placement techniques, we can replace one or two whole rows of teeth using 4 to 6 implants.

All-on-4 implant treatment is also known as ‘teeth in a day’ treatment. Using carefully angled implants, your dentist can place a fixed bridge to address tooth loss, even in patients with very little of their natural jawbone remaining. The All-on-4 implant process is for patients who have lost most or all of their teeth.

All-on-4 treatment involves:

  • Consultation.
  • Treatment planning.
  • Implant placement and same-day fixed (temporary) bridge placement.
  • Healing time.
  • A temporary bridge is replaced with a long-term custom-made bridge.

Benefits of All-on-4 implants

Immediate results: On the day of your implant surgery, your dentist will place a temporary bridge over the top of your new implants (hence the nickname ‘teeth in a day’ for All-on-4).

This wasn’t previously a possibility for patients, who would need to wait during the months-long healing period to get a replacement set of teeth.

Natural aesthetics unique to your smile: Like all of our implant-based treatments, All-on-4 is fully customised. We’ll consider aspects including the size and shape of each tooth, how your teeth are positioned and how they sit in relation to the shape of your mouth and lips. All-on-4 implants sit in the jaw, with the bridge sitting over the top (which mimics exactly how natural teeth sit in the mouth).

Cost-effective for patients with many missing teeth: Rather than using individual implants for individual missing teeth, All-on-4 uses 4-6 implants to secure a full row of teeth. Your dentist will use a unique technique, identifying the most bone-dense locations across the jaw. The implants are then placed at 45-degree angles at these precise locations. This reduces the need for bone grafts: As we use the bone-rich areas of the jaw and angle the implants within these locations, in many cases, bone grafts are not needed.

Functional bite and chewing ability: One of the most notable benefits for patients is the stable biting and chewing capacity offered by All-on-4 implant teeth. You will no longer have to worry about limiting your diet due to missing teeth or loose dentures or bridges.

Your HAZELWOOD EXPERIENCE

Treatment journey

The All-on-4 protocol is a multi-step process involving treatment planning, a healing period, placement of a temporary bridge, digital dental scans or impressions, and the placement of a custom-made dental bridge.

Consultation

We will assess your eligibility for implants by taking a CBCT scan of your mouth and examining your teeth and soft tissue structure (tongue, gums, and palate). In the rare cases where a jawbone graft is needed, this can be carried out in-house (we are one of the few practices to offer this in-house).

The findings of your consultation will be used to create a fully costed Treatment Plan that includes each step involved on the route to a full smile again.

Implant placement surgery

The implants are placed under local anaesthetic. Your dentist will then place your temporary fixed bridge (even if you need failing teeth to be extracted, we can still place your temporary bridge on the same day). Once the surgery is completed, the healing period begins (this phase can take between 3-9 months). The implant-to-jaw healing process is called osseointegration, and during this time, the bone in the jaw grows around the implant as if it were a real tooth root.

Restoration

Once your dentist is certain that the healing period is complete, your temporary bridge is replaced with your long-term bridge.

Frequently asked questions

How long do All-on-4 implants last?

All-on-4 teeth are designed to be functional for many years.

With good care, there’s no reason why your implants can’t last a lifetime. However, your fixed bridge is likely to need replacing after 5-10 years.

To maximise your bridge’s lifespan, make sure you:

  • Visit the dentist and hygienist for check-ups and routine cleanings.
  • Adopt a good at-home oral care routine (implants can still sustain gum disease!).
  • Do not smoke (this is one of the biggest reasons why implants fail, as it cuts off the vital blood supply to the gums).

Can I get All-on-4 implants on the NHS?

Only in very rare circumstances are implants available through the NHS.

Implants are considered an elective treatment and the gold standard in tooth replacement. We strongly consider opting for dental implants over conventional bridges and dentures, as they are a huge step up in terms of function and aesthetics.

Is getting an implant painful?

As local anaesthetic is used, you should not feel anything.

Some mild pressure whilst your dentist places your implant is normal (though many people do not experience this).

You may experience some discomfort for 2-3 days after your surgery whilst your body begins the immediate healing process. This can be accompanied by minor swelling and bleeding.

In the vast majority of cases, pain experienced in the 2-3 days after implant placement can be controlled with over-the-counter painkillers.

Are All-on-4 teeth removable?

In the majority of cases, All-on-4 is fixed and can only be removed for clinical reasons by your dentist.

They are not designed to be removed by the patients.

If you are looking for a removable option and an option using a larger number of implants, you may wish to consider implant-retained dentures.

Your dentist will run through the pros and cons of each treatment during your implant consultation.

Do I need to replace missing teeth/compromised dentures or bridges?

Of course, any treatment you have is your decision.

However, it is important to know that sometimes, persisting with either a denture or failing teeth can mean the bone available for treatments such as implants can reduce over time, making treatment more complicated as time goes on.

You may also find that the condition of your oral health deteriorates further as a result of living without a full mouth of teeth.
