Invisalign® is the leading removable clear aligner brand that fits in around your lifestyle.

Teeth straightening minus the metal, the wires and the hassle. Invisalign® is a set of custom-made transparent aligners that guides your teeth into a straighter position, all without the use of metal or brackets attached to your teeth.

Using our state-of-the-art iTero scanner, your dentist can create an accurate mock-up of how your teeth will look at the end of treatment. These digital scans are then sent away to Invisalign, and your custom-made aligners are produced. Invisalign® aligners are designed to be worn in a specific sequence and are replaced every week. Each aligner is responsible for moving your teeth into a pre-planned position. The next aligner in the sequence then takes over.

In conjunction with Invisalign®, we will also track your progress with Dental Monitoring®.

Treatment journey

Consultation

We will assess your eligibility for Invisalign® by taking digital scans and X-rays. A full examination is carried out to check for signs of decay and gum disease (which will need to be treated prior to starting Invisalign). Once we are confident that you are clinically suitable and have expressed that you would like to go ahead with treatment, we can begin working on your custom treatment plan.

Treatment mapping

Using the digital scans of your mouth (taken with our iTero scanner), we can map out how your teeth will move during the treatment period. This gives us valuable insight into how long your case will take and how your teeth will look by the end of treatment. The digital scans are sent to Invisalign®, where your aligners are made.

Your aligners

Once your aligners have been sent back from the lab, you can start wearing them for 22 hours a day, removing them to eat and clean your teeth.

Progress

At Hazelwood we use Dental Monitoring®, an app that allows your dentist to keep track of your treatment remotely. This is a simple scan of your smile from your smartphone within the app.

Retainer

Once your teeth have reached their final position, your dentist will provide a retainer to wear. This stops your teeth from moving back into their starting position.

Benefits of Invisalign®

Discreet (almost invisible) aligners
Invisalign® aligners are made from transparent, BPA-free recyclable plastic. Once you are wearing them, they will be barely noticeable to others (and significantly less so than traditional metal braces).

Custom-fit = comfort
Your aligners are made from a highly accurate 3D digital scan of your teeth. This precise fit makes each aligner in the sequence easy to get used to. As they’re metal-free, you won’t have to worry about any metal components irritating your soft tissues (tongue and cheeks).

Lifestyle-orientated treatment (removable aligners)
Invisalign® was designed with the patient at the heart of everything. The removable aspect of the aligners means you can brush, floss and eat completely normally.

Known for predictability
Invisalign® has a fantastic reputation for being highly predictable. Using the integrated ClinCheck® software, your dentist can show you the final result before you’ve even started a single day of wearing the aligners. No surprises from what to expect, just a natural-looking pre-projected smile to look forward to at the end of treatment.

Fewer appointments
No adjustments are needed, such as brace tightening (since there are no wires!) Your dentist will need to see you only to carry out an action (versus 4-5 weeks with traditional metal braces), meaning fewer appointments on your way to a straighter smile.

What can Invisalign® fix?

invisalign before after

Crowded teeth

Crowded teeth are a condition where you do not have enough room for your teeth to fit normally. This can cause plaque or tartar and other harmful bacteria to build up as it is harder for you to brush and floss well.

invisalign before after

Gaps between teeth

Gaps between teeth are when there is extra space between two or more of your teeth. This can cause pockets between your teeth and gums, causing food to get stuck and making them tender and sore. This might also lead to gum disease.

invisalign before after

Open bite

An open bite is when your upper and lower teeth don't touch when you close your mouth. An open bite can make it hard for you to chew or difficult to bite even the most common of foods like apples.

invisalign before after

Underbite

An underbite is when you close your mouth, and your lower front teeth are in front of your upper teeth. In many cases, this is actually a problem with your lower jaw being too far forward. An underbite can make it hard to chew properly and speak clearly, and it might cause your teeth to wear down more quickly.

invisalign before after

Overbite

An overbite is when your upper front teeth overlap with your lower front teeth. Most people have at least a little overbite. When your overbite is too large, your dentist might tell you that you have a deep bite. This can cause problems, from your teeth wearing down to pain in your jaw.

invisalign before after

Crossbite

A crossbite is when you close your mouth, and yet some of your upper teeth sit inside your lower teeth rather than on the outside. A crossbite can make your teeth wear down or chip. It can also make your gums start to recede or make little notches above your gum line. This kind of damage can lead to painful gum problems or even bone loss.

Frequently asked questions

1. Do I need to have my teeth straightened?

Teeth straightening with Invisalign® is considered an elective treatment.

The main reason patients choose to have their teeth straightened is because they dislike the appearance of their teeth. This said, there can be health benefits of having teeth that are more naturally aligned. Teeth become easier to floss and brush, and food particles can’t become as easily lodged in the gaps where your teeth previously overlapped.

When teeth are not in line or have uneven contact points, you can also get tooth wear or chipping of your teeth from clenching and grinding.

The most significant outcome of getting a straighter smile is the benefit it can have on your confidence and your general desire to smile around other people.

2. Is Invisalign® better than fixed braces?

Fixed braces are still very much a viable option for teeth straightening, addressing more complex cases (in some cases, Invisalign® is not clinically appropriate, and we may recommend a fixed appliance).

However, for mild to moderate issues with your tooth alignment, Invisalign® is a highly successful option.

3. What can Invisalign® treat?

Invisalign® can be used to treat the following structural problems with your teeth:

  • Crowded teeth.
  • Misaligned teeth.
  • Gaps in your teeth.
  • Mild underbites and overbites.

As well as realigning your teeth to make them more symmetrical, Invisalign® can give you a broader smile.
